Saxophonist, composer, and arranger Sean R. Garde began his study of saxophone at age 12. At age 16 he began the study of piano and composition, writing several virtuosic works for solo piano during the ensuing years. From 2010-2015 completed his collegiate studies of saxophone at the University of Wisconsin- Platteville, with saxophonist Allen Cordingley. From 2013-2015 Sean studied with composition professor Dr. Amy Dunker from Clarke University.
As an advocate of new music, Sean has given the world premiere of pieces by composers including Zacharias Paul Büchner, Adam O'Dell, Tim Gelhaus, Chris Arroyo and Amy Dunker in order to expand the classical saxophone repertoire. Work on additional pieces has begun with Scott Brickman , George Chave, Derek Jenkins, Luke Flynn, and Marshall Jones. He is also a member of the Global Premiere Baljinder Sekhon Saxophone Consortium, which will feature worldwide performances following the world premiere.As well as additional consortium projects with Marc Mellits, Josh Trentadue and Guillermo Lago.
He has had the great opportunity to take lessons with Steven Jordheim, Sarah Kind, David Hastings, Kenneth Tse, Otis Murphy, Sumner Truax, Stephen Page, Christian Wirth, Jérôme Laran, and Jean-Yves Fourmeau, as well as participate in master classes given by Jean-Marie Londeix, Marco Albonetti and Claude Delange. In January of 2013 Sean was the first American to attend the Stage d'Interpretation et du Virtuosity in Saint-Maur-des-Fossées, France attending lessons, master classes, and lectures given by world renowned French saxophonists.
Sean was named the winner of the 2013 University of Wisconsin Platteville Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition. During the spring of 2014 Sean attended Colorado Mesa University under a Nation Student Exchange scholarship to study saxophone with Dr. Stephen Page. In winter of 2014 Sean was named a winner of the University of Wisconsin- Platteville Orchestral Concerto Competition. During the summer of 2015 Sean collaborated with Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and William Intrilligator to premiere the first movement of the Adam O'Dell Saxophone Concerto, which will premiered in its entirety at a later date.
In the spring of 2014, Sean was personally invited to attend the Conservatorio di Musica F.A. Bonporti di Trento to earn a Biennio Specialistico in Saxofono studying with world renowned Italian saxophonist Marco Albonetti during the 2015-17 school years.
